Project Overview

The Wayne County Department of Public Services is currently rehabilitating the Evergreen Road bridges over the Lower Rouge River, located just south of Fair Lane.

The project includes sealing and repairing bridge surfaces, replacing joints and damaged railings, and upgrading the bridge supports beneath the structure. These improvements will enhance long-term safety and extend the lifespan of the bridges.

Construction is expected to continue through summer 2026, weather permitting.

Current Traffic Changes (Effective March 5)

Bridge repair work on Evergreen Road is shifting to the northbound lanes beginning Thursday, March 5, 2026.

As a result:

  • Northbound Evergreen Road will be closed at Michigan Avenue.

  • Traffic coming from Michigan Avenue (both eastbound and westbound) will be detoured to M-39 (Southfield Service Drives).

  • From there, drivers will be directed:

    • West on Hubbard Drive, then

    • South on Evergreen Road.

Visitors should allow extra travel time when navigating the construction area and detours.

Access to Fair Lane During Construction

Fair Lane Drive, which was previously closed during repairs to the southbound bridge, has now reopened.

Visitors, event attendees, and campus guests may access Fair Lane using the posted detour routes and local signage throughout the area.

Access to surrounding businesses and residences will continue to be maintained during construction.

Campus Map Update

  • The online campus map has been updated to reflect the current construction and detour routes.

  • Visitors are encouraged to review the updated map before arriving to help plan their route.

Additional Information

  • Reduced speed limits may be in effect near the construction zone.

  • Traffic patterns may change as work progresses.

  • Wayfinding signage for Fair Lane will remain in place throughout construction.
