Scouts Support Fair Lane
Fair Lane recently benefited from three Eagle Scout projects and a Girl Scout of S.E. Michigan Gold Award project. Colin McHugh with Troop #1537 designed and constructed new framing for the compost area. Colin learned about Fair Lane from his older brother, Nicholas McHugh, who built new plant propagation ‘cold frames’ for his Eagle Scout project.
Word spread among Troop #1537 that Fair Lane had Eagle Scout project ideas and Eshwar Kanakasabai offered to build two new soil screening benches and a new ramp for easier access to the Tool Room. Eshwar provided several new garden tools to Fair Lane to complete his project.
Overlapping this period was Emily Forbes’ Girl Scout Gold Award project associated with Troop #0009. Emily installed a new native plant garden to create an ecologically appropriate garden for attracting pollinators. Emily completed her project by preparing an educational brochure and purchasing several garden tools from her project fundraising efforts.
Since 2001, 37 Eagle Scout projects and two Gold Award project have been completed at Fair Lane! For additional information on future Scout opportunities at Fair Lane, please contact kmarzonie@henryfordestate.org.
