Wayne County To Begin Rehabilitation of Evergreen Bridges Over the Lower Rouge River

WAYNE COUNTY, MI – The Wayne County Department of Public Services will begin important rehabilitation work on the Evergreen Road bridges over the Lower Rouge River, located in the City of Dearborn. The project will include sealing and repairing the bridge surfaces, replacing joints and damaged railings, and upgrading support structures beneath the bridges, among other improvements.

Construction is scheduled to begin Monday, October 13, 2025, and is expected to be completed by Summer 2026, weather permitting.

These upgrades are part of Wayne County’s continued efforts to improve safety and extend the lifespan of critical infrastructure.

To minimize disruptions, work will be completed in two phases: the southbound bridge will be addressed first, followed by the northbound bridge. During construction, traffic will be detoured via Hubbard Drive, Southfield Service Drive, and Michigan Avenue. Detours are as follows:

Southbound Evergreen Road will be detoured at Hubbard Drive. Only local traffic will be allowed to continue south of Hubbard, and all southbound traffic will be blocked at the southernmost turnaround. Drivers heading to Evergreen Road or US-12 (Michigan Ave.) from the south should follow posted detour routes beginning at Hubbard Drive.

Northbound Evergreen Road will be closed at US-12 (Michigan Ave.), and the ramps from Michigan Ave to northbound Evergreen will also be closed. Drivers will need to use alternate routes to access northbound Evergreen from Michigan Ave.

For Michigan Ave. traffic:

  • Westbound drivers will be detoured at M-39 (Southfield Service Drives), with an additional detour at the turnaround west of Evergreen Road.

  • Eastbound drivers will also be detoured at M-39 (Southfield Service Drives).

Reduced speed limits and load restrictions may be in place. Access to all local residences and businesses will be maintained throughout the duration of the project. Flaggers will be present as needed to assist with traffic flow and ensure safety.

Wayne County appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation during this important infrastructure project.
